Quiet Before the Storm. Ideas Brewing.

Not a whole lot in cool lists and data coming out of me so far this week.  What I do have is ideas brewing.  Stuff that I am thinking about;

1.  How can we communicate to you folks better.
2.  Are our game comments useful?  Are they helping or hurting our site.
3.  Making our games more reliable for more people more often.
4.  How can I empower you fine folks to tell me what you want to see on the site?
5.  Is there a better way to surface our best games,  while promoting the entire games catalog?
6.  How do I recruit community leaders and find out who believes in what we're doing.

If you have any thoughts or comments about what's floating around in my brain,  please do not hesitate to comment.

If you want to make the games more reliable start with Slingo. I've tried doing everything you have listed to get into Slingo and haven't made it yet. It says the game is loading but it never does. I don't know how other people are getting in but wish I did.

I really am sorry to hear you are having trouble.  It can be incredibly frustrating when software does not work.
We've been trying collect all the data and present to everyone.  For now,  I would suggest writing to aolsupport@slingo.com
If you don't hear back from them,  please do not hesitate to write me laurent.courtines@corp.aol.com

I only have one comment on your ability to communicate better with the sunscribers/users, taking into account your recent article on ruling the board with an "iron fist" of censorship.

Allow me to provide you with the loop that is required...you can have this auto posted daily so that users can be directed to the technical assistance loop provided by AOL Games.

"Sorry you are having problems...we at AOL are providing you with the compassionate "technical assistance" site that you can loop into...We just want you to know that we are not monitoring your continued movement through the loop laughing at our offices because we really care.  We care as much as when we opened POGO and charged for games.  We care as much as when we offered full versions for purchase and made the free versions impossible to load.  We care about our advertisers and do not laugh as we collect money from both sides while providing services to advertisers only.  It's a ding dogedy day for us at AOL and we hope you will continue to subscribe for our entertainment, after all, we are being paid to watch you spin in loops like rats in a loop maze."

Thats a fair comment.  I understand everyone's frustration at the site.  I for one am frustrated with some of the things that have gone on in the last year.   There are some things I can speak to.

1.  Pogo owns and operates their games.  It was their decision to charge for Club Pogo and it was their decision to remove the Club Pogo five games free.

2.  AOL and Pogo are not,  have not,  and never have been the same company.  Yes, we're long standing partners and we have a good working relationship with them but their decisions are wholly their own.  We work within the parameters of our contracts and we negotiate items.

3.  You are correct.  We have not done the best with can with our help section.  We're working on that.  We expect there to be changes to how people are directed to help early next year.  We've made a boat load of changes this year and we're trying to catch our breath; listen to everyone's issues and come up with a comprehensive plan for improvement.  It's GOING TO HAPPEN, in fact,  IT HAS TO HAPPEN.

4.  I am not sure you know this,  but as far as I know,  there was never a person on the boards/Comments/Emailed who listened to what peoples issues were.  This is a new thing for the games group.  Weekly I report the issues that you,  our members, have to our team and we make decisions based on your feedback.  I know the site isn't perfect.  I know things aren't working for some people.  It stinks and I have made it know that we have to address the issues or we lose credibility.

5.  I really care about this community.  I go home bummed out when things aren't working.  I probably shouldn't do that but I do.  I appreciate that everyone take the time to post things and has passion for the site.  It really is great and am thankful that you all post here.  It does not

I just gotta say here that I can't think of any other free gaming sites - or any pay sites, for that matter - that have a guy like Laurent who has the cajones to put himself out here in a public forum like this for their users.

Whoever was just bitching about the help site and lack of communication should take a second here to realize - THIS IS COMMUNICATION.  Through Laurent, you've got a direct line into the team that gives you a way to play a lot of great games for free.  You're not getting that level of support or communication anywhere else.

Kudos to Laurent and AOL Games for providing this line of communication, and have a great '08.
