Just doing my job..

Hey there kids, another day and another item.  Today at AOL games we're getting ready for our mid-year evaluations.   My job has changed since I last filled out my evaluation so its like starting all over again.
Wasn't so bad as my boss is a sound person who had basically did my job for me by including in his goals my goals!  Boy was I psyched to see that!

I have some goals for the year that affect the public at large.  I really want to get people who player AOL games talking.  Its not easy,  but I think if we can get the tools out there then people will talk.
Totally changing the subject.....
AOL struggles sometimes with its past.  I'm trying to push them forward but it is hard.
There are so many people who get the web that work here,  but when fit into the constraints of the AOL culture they just get swallowed up.  I think in some sense there is a lack of leadership,  not from my boss,  but from higher up.  What the games team needs is some easy launches that we can feel good about.  We're in a state of being pushed so often that we don't always get to enjoy things when they are done. Sometimes it feels like we're constantly behind on our schedules?  How is that possible that we're always behind?  Doesn't make sense?   Small victories would be nice.
I really like it here, and I am excited to see where we end up!

Long days....

Got in there and was able to do the work necessary to clear my week out for the good work that I enjoy doing.

I have a few tactical tasks that I do that can be time consuming.  I make launchpad pages so our games can have chat and follow up with our members who have issues on the message boards.  Staying at work until 7.30pm (full disclosure,  its not that bad,  I get here at 10.30) and clearing things up that are time consuming allows me to do what I do best.

What I think I do best is consume information and come up with ideas.  The more I am able to spend time searching the web, follow my threads and feeds the better I am able to come up with innovative ideas when the time comes.

The web is filled with so much great stuff right now that if you do not keep up with what is going on,  the more likely you are to miss an opportunity to do something really amazing.

Going to pack up and go home!  It was my lovely girlfriends first day at MTV today!  Can't wait to see her!

Another Long Week At Games

Well,  as we all can see I have not been posting.  It happens.  You get busy and things fall off the radar.  At AOL games things have been heating up.  Here is what I have been specifically working on this week.
1.  Getting more of games wrapped in our chat system.
This is an on going process that helps us in the long run.  Some members have trouble,  but it is maybe an hour of trouble shooting away from being resolved.  Once everything is wrapped,  we'll be able to monitor things more effectively.
2.  Following up on bugs from 980
Well,  we've gone wide and not too many people are pissed off! Which is great!  We did lose our leaderboards for solitaire games,  but we're trying to get those back up.
3.  We have a new feedback address that I am working on solutions for.
People are writing in, and have a ton to say!  I'm still working out a good auto-response so that our AOL games players can at least get some help with their issues.  There are only 3 full time employees of AOL games so we need automated processes.
4. Reviewing more games!  We're working on some deals with other companies to bring a more diverse style of game and I am tasked with finding the good ones.  If you have a tip,  please let me know!
5.  The World Series Of Poker is moving along.
AOL games sends 12 people to the WSOP free of charge and we have a whole package of content we're getting out the door.  I have some email interviews to do and LOTS of articles to post.  It should be interesting.
6.  Last but not least....BINGO
Bingo went into beta for AOL games about a month ago and was a huge disappointment.  We're trying to rectify all those issues and hope to have a public viewing available next week.  We're crossing our fingers!  Should be fine.
